This program focuses on rowing instruction for the first-timer or the very new to the sport. The sessions start with the very basics of the stroke on land. After teaching the basic motions and terms the campers move to the boats. Attention is paid to teaching proper technique, learning some finer points of rowing, and having fun. The season ends with the Green Lake Regatta.
The PRC Summer Camp will provide experienced athletes with the opportunity to develop their rowing technique without the pressures of a competitive season. Each day rowers will be on the water working on the 3 basic principles of oarsmanship – connection, suspension, and acceleration. The work will take place primarily in small boats, with the athletes focusing on sweep or sculling depending on their goals for the following season. Rowers will compete at the Green Lake regatta on August 1.
The Pocock Rowing Center Camp of Excellence is intended for athletes ages 14-18. The Camp is designed to provide the athlete with the tools necessary to achieve their goals in the upcoming 2009-10 competitive rowing seasons. The feedback will not only cover the rowing stroke, but mental preparation, focus, and physical development. The rowers will be sweeping or sculling based on their individual goals for the upcoming season.
